This project will begin with an in-class critique of the MySpace.com home page, centering on the site’s design problems (layout, typographic hierarchy, color choice, navigation scheme, etc.). From this critique we will generate a list of design issues that need to be addressed. We will also generate a list of necessary design elements and discuss the target audience of the site. Based on the existing site audience, IA and design elements and guided by our evaluation of the site, you will redesign the website. You will begin by generating wireframe sketches of the redesigned site and then develop these sketches into a final Photoshop design comp.
You will create at least 3 wireframe sketches (on paper or in JPG format). These sketches should explore how the existing elements on the MySpace.com home page can be re-organized to solve the issues we uncovered during our critique of the site. Each of your sketches should represent a significantly different approach to the redesign.
You will submit your design comp in the form of a layered Photoshop file (.PSD format). The comp should be well organized, with logically named layers organized into folders based on the list of design elements we established in our critique. You will also submit a JPG of your design, saved for the web in Photoshop at 100% quality.
A successful project will meet the following criteria:
