You will conceptualize and design a website for a band or artist of your choosing. After researching websites for similar bands/artists, you will determine the information that will be presented on the website. This includes a list of elements that will be accounted for in the design (e.g. logo, navigation, upcoming shows) as well as an Information Architecture outlining all of the pages of the site. You will not be required to deliver content for these pages. Based on this list of elements, you will create a series of wireframe sketches with the intention of exploring possible layout configurations of these elements. Finally, you will produce a Photoshop design comp that accounts for all of the elements you outlined, is well organized and ready to be turned into a functional website, and which appropriately reflect the aesthetics of your chosen band.
You will provide a list of design elements that will be present in your design for the band website. Possible elements include, but are not limited to, the following standard elements:
After establishing the elements that will be present in the final website, you will create at least 3 wireframe sketches (on paper or in JPG format). These sketches should explore possible configurations of the necessary elements and should represent significantly different approaches to the design.
You will create an Information Architecture in flow chart or outline format representing the proposed structure of the site. You will come up with your recommendation for what pages should be included in the web site based on research of similar websites, the features and sections they contain, and what in your mind constitutes the ideal information that should be present. If the band you have chosen already has a web site, it is not acceptable to copy the existing site structure verbatim. At least one page on the website should include secondary navigation.
You will submit your design comp in the form of a layered Photoshop file (.PSD format). The comp should be well organized, with logically named layers organized into folders based on the list of design elements you created. You will also submit a JPG of your design, saved for the web in Photoshop at 100% quality. The content area of your site design should be designed and considered with regard to typography and color choices.
A successful project will meet the following criteria:
